Hi everyone.
I was asked to post something on the page to tell you about the training I provide.
I am a BILD (British Institute of Learning Disabilities) trained Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) coach.

PBS is an evidence based person centred approach to reducing behaviour that challenges.
The overall aim of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is to improve the quality of a person’s life and that of the people around them. This includes children, young people adults as well as older people.

PBS provides the right support for a person, their family and friends to help people lead a meaningful life and learn new skills without unnecessary restrictions. It is not simply about getting rid of problematic behaviour and there are NO aversive consequences or punishments.

With the right support at the right time the likelihood of behaviour that challenges is reduced.

This is NOT about teaching restraint techniques, it is a pro-active approach which looks at the reasons (function) of the behaviour and how meeting the needs of the person reduces the need for the behaviour.

Just a heads up. PBS uses what we call "A Functional Behavioural Assesment" which is the same one used in ABA Assesments (The Analysis part of ABA i.e the DATA) BUT that is where the similarity to ABA ends. I am not promoting ABA therapy in any shape or form.

We would start around 10-10.20 am, and aim to finish around 3-3.30pm depending on what you guys want.

I am aware that many of you will have lots of questions and be looking for answers to your own childs difficulties, and we will try and build some extra time for this if you want it.

Heres a video from BILD explaining about what challenging behaviour is. You may also want to have a look at the PABSS (my small charitable organisation) website www.pabss.org.uk.
